Services we provide.

We are a 39-place centre that offers 3 generously sized, stimulating and home like playrooms and 2 large playgrounds designed by early childhood professionals and horticulturalists.

Meals.

At Dido Street ELC we offer breakfast, morning tea, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea which meets the nutritional guidelines and further caters to children’s dietary needs. We ask families to pack a simple lunch which we believe fosters children’s independence, self-help skills, school readiness in knowing how to open their lunch and further offer a sense of security and comfort from home.

OUR CURRICULUM & LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Developmental needs, interests, and experiences of each child.

At Dido Street Early Learning Centre, we focus on addressing the developmental needs, interests, and experiences of each child, while taking into account individual differences in accordance with the National Learning Framework. Our educators practices connects with aspects of childhood theorists based on age/stage of development, play based learning and holistic approaches to teaching.

Infant program and goals

(0-2 year olds).

Our Koala Room offers a professionally designed playroom and home like bedroom nursery to help make our infants’ transition between home and day care smooth and positive.

The Koala Room educators and learning environment offer the following:

  • Provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment that promotes curiosity and discovery

  • Develop and implement exciting interest-based learning experiences that promote development and growth

  • Foster meaningful relationships between educators, children, peers and families

  • Observe and extend developmental milestones such as early speech and language skills, movement patterns, vision, hearing and interactions with others.

  • Provide opportunities to help develop children’s independence

  • Follow routines implemented by children’s families to ensure similarities and connections between home and care.

  • Embed sensory stimulating activities into our environments

  • Offer open ended craft opportunities to stimulate creative minds through play

Toddler program and goals.

Our Kangaroo Room boasts an open and sunny playroom that offers beautiful and carefully selected resources that reflect our children’s interests, strengths and emerging skills.

 

The educators ensure a homelike feel and welcome families to engage within our space to promote positive and meaningful connections between home and care.

The Kangaroo Room educators and learning environment offer the following:

  • Provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment that promotes curiosity and discovery

  • Develop and implement exciting interest-based learning experiences that promote development and growth.

  • Foster meaningful relationships between educators, children, peers and families.

  • Observe and extend developmental milestones such as expressive and receptive communication skills, complex movement patterns and motor skills, vision, hearing, interactions with others, self-help skills and independence.

  • Follow routines that explore different aspects of the day that gently link to formal schooling.

  • Embed sensory stimulating activities into our environments.

  • Offer open ended and structured craft opportunities to stimulate creative minds through play and individual/group art sessions.

  • Foster a smooth and slow transition to preschool through frequent visits, promoting positive interactions with preschool educators and fostering friendships with peers also transitioning.

Preschool program and goals.

Our Emu Room offers a beautifully designed play-based learning environment with a purpose designed art studio. The space boasts natural elements bringing the outdoors inside and the carefully selected resources provide an investigative element to children’s play.

The Emu Room educators and learning environment offer the following:

  • Provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment that promotes curiosity and discovery.

  • Develop and implement exciting interest-based learning experiences that promote development and growth.

  • Foster meaningful relationships between educators, children, peers and families.

  • Observe and extend developmental milestones such as early speech and language skills, movement patterns, vision, hearing and interactions with others.

  • Provide opportunities to help develop children’s independence.

  • Follow routines implemented by children’s families to ensure similarities and connections between home and care and build resilience towards new routines and environments.

  • Embed sensory stimulating activities into our environments.

  • Offer open ended and structured craft opportunities to stimulate creative minds through play and individual/group art sessions.

  • Foster a smooth transition to formal schooling by connecting with local schools including visiting schools and having visitors from local schools attend our service, fostering relationships between children attending the same primary schools and gently connecting with primary school learning frameworks through fun play based activities.

  • Providing school readiness programs that explore aspects of formal schooling focussing on self-help skills, resilience, forming friendships, separating confidently from families, emotional regulation and links to structured learning tasks when interest arise.

  • Exploring elements of wellbeing through munch and move and music and movement programs which highlight the importance of healthy eating, moving our bodies and participating in cooking experiences that highlight healthier alternatives.
